Abstract	Among the principal assumptions that have governed enrollment management in community colleges for the past two decades is that the community college sector serves a distinctly older population than do other sectors of the post-secondary system. When the noted community college researcher, Arthur Cohen of the University of California-Los Angeles, proclaimed that the average age of community college students was 29, the number became a threshold benchmark and set a tone for program development, student services, and community outreach. For enrollment management, this tone drives one toward tasks of recruiting working adult populations with specialized curricula, ensuring adequate delivery sites and modes, and maintaining enrollment volume in targeted programs. Current trends, however, indicate an increasing number and proportion of first-time students are entering community colleges directly from high school. This article suggests that community colleges look more carefully at their traditional age students, the ways in which they are attending school, who is most likely to spend the bulk of their undergraduate careers in the community college sector, and, among the latter group, what they study. Greater attention to this group, the "community college dominant" student, may make a considerable difference in the measures by which community colleges are held accountable. (Contains 4 tables.)
