Abstract | The National Association for the Education of Young Children's Accreditations Criteria for Assessment clearly identifies the need for observation and assessment in early childhood programs. NAEYC also addresses the need to create an assessment plan and use appropriate assessment methods. Although practitioners agree that observation is important, they often do not have a plan for observation and assessment, a knowledge of the various methods of assessment or an understanding of when and why the various methods should be used. In this article, the author discusses observation and identifies various types of assessment tools as well as ways preschool teachers might use to assess a child's development. (ERIC). |
