Abstract | In June 2005, seven people met at the Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) to develop a code of ethics governing all members of the university community. The initial group developed a preamble, that included reasons for establishing such a code and who was to be governed by the code, including rationale for following the guidelines. From this starter code, a procedure of focus groups was followed both to determine what standard was actually needed and to get buy-in from the university community. At time of writing, the code has been approved by the governing body of the student association. Action by the faculty council, the president's council and board of trustees is anticipated prior to implementation. (Contains 17 notes.) (ERIC). |
