Abstract | One may be surprised to learn that the author's institution, a small state college in Massachusetts, has a significant alumni population in and around Los Angeles. In fact, while they do not have an alumni chapter in Boston, they do have one in Los Angeles. The reason is that one of their most popular majors is communications media. They pump out plenty of graduates who want to work in the film industry, mostly behind the scenes on the technical side. No better place to do that than in Hollywood. Over the last year, their prospect research has uncovered a good number of graduates in Los Angeles who, according to their sophisticated analysis, may be able to give them scads of money. The author's colleague, another lifelong East Coaster, had never been to California. The author thought it was high time they hitched up the wagons and headed west. In this article, the author shares their experiences during their trip to California. Although they did not raise any money, they connected with several good prospects and some not-so-good prospects.
