Abstract | Towson University (TU) is in a period of growth in both students and facilities. To guide this growth, TU relies on its strategic plan, Towson 2010, to focus its strategic decisions through 2010. Release of the National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE) data for 2005 coincided with a call for academic excellence and accelerated growth at Towson and with the focus on Towson 2010. The NSSE results for Towson clearly illustrated the relationship between student engagement and student satisfaction with the college experience, which is also well documented in the literature. This article describes how campus leaders at TU used NSSE results as a platform for launching a university-wide discussion of considering ways for maintaining quality and excellence in the face of a burgeoning student population.
