Abstract | When asked to speak on the first day of Rosh Hashanah (the Jewish New Year) the author, who is passionate about developing holistic education, began to realize that he had gotten lazy about his own personal growth. As an educator, he was quite used to creating environments that transform students, and encouraging them to explore different parts of their identity. Challenging students to articulate who they are and who they are becoming and why it matters, was a large part of his every day life, yet he realized that he was terrified at the prospect of grappling with his own spiritual identity at all, let alone in such a very public way. In hindsight, he shares that preparing for this ten-minute talk significantly changed the trajectory of his own development. It provided an opportunity for the educator to be educated. (ERIC). |
