Abstract | In this article, the author laments higher education's lack of concern towards the development of teaching in the public schools over the last half of the 20th century. Most of academe's work on the topic of teacher training has been done at the branches of state universities that needed to make money and create a niche. The author observes that efforts are not done extensively at the prestigious universities as their notion of aiding K-12 education has usually been through policy and research and not by providing children with a great kindergarten teacher. The author concludes that the only salvation for the system is in creating a third culture that could end the apartheid between higher and public education. (ERIC). |
