Abstract | This article takes a look at the rising popularity of professors as the latest YouTube stars. The popularity of their appearances on YouTube and other video-sharing sites is making it possible for classrooms to be opened up and making teaching--which once took place behind closed doors--a more public art. Web video has generated a new form of public intellectualism to scholars looking to participate in an increasingly visual culture. As such, several colleges have signed agreements with sites such as YouTube to connect people with the professors and topics that most interest them. These colleges include the University of California at Berkeley, the University of Southern California, the University of New South Wales, in Australia, and the Vanderbilt University. (ERIC). |
