Abstract | Career and technical educators have long recognized the fact that a highly skilled craftsperson is not necessarily a highly skilled instructor of that craft. In the belief that the key to a productive, efficient workforce lies in high quality training for journeymen and apprentices, the Carpenter's International Training Fund (CITF) partnered with the Workforce Education and Development Program (WF ED) of Pennsylvania State University in an effort to improve the quality of workforce education. This article takes a closer look at the International United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners Union (UBC) Instructor Training Workshops, the instructor training seminars co-conducted by CITF and WF ED. This article also examines the outcomes of the trainings. Lastly, this article describes the changes made in the training seminars to adapt to the needs of the profession. (Contains 3 figures.)
