Abstract | The individual stories of scholars of South Asian descent are as divergent as the communities, countries of origin and cultural traditions from which they and their families originate. Though their numbers are believed to trail those of their counterparts in business, science and engineering fields, U.S. scholars of South Asian descent are adding to the diversity of the social sciences and humanities in U.S. higher education. This article features six scholars of South Asian descent: (1) Dr. Jeremi Suri; (2) Dr. Preeti Chopra; (3) Dipak Gupta; (4) Dr. Ananda Mitra; (5) Dr. Nikky-Guninder K. Singh; and (6) Annu Palakunnathu Matthew. These South Asian scholars say they want to see both expansion in their ranks in the liberal arts as well as growth in South Asia studies. (ERIC). |
