Abstract | In this article, the authors discuss podcasting and provide ways on how to create podcasts. A podcast is an audio or video file that is posted on the web that can easily be cataloged and automatically downloaded to a computer or mobile device capable of playing back audio or video files. Podcasting is a powerful tool for educators to get students involved in activities that are meaningful, integrative, value-based, challenging, and active. It involves planning and organizing, research, writing, editing, and the use of technology where necessary and appropriate. Using "Our City Podcast," a podcast for kids and by kids, is a great way to start podcasting with students. Because the technical aspects are taken care of after the podcast is submitted, teachers and students are able to focus on the content. At the same time, using digital tools they are familiar with, kids can learn from other kids about the places in which they live. (Contains 3 notes.) (ERIC). |
