Abstract | From kindergarten to college, students can express ideas and feelings in a variety of two- and three-dimensional forms. This production experience encourages individual creativity along with the rewards that come from the conscientious application of technical and problem-solving skills. While experiencing the process of collage and applying the art elements of shape, space, color, and texture students produce profiles with personality. The result is a collection of highly personalized works that say something significant about each student artist. In this article, the author presents an activity that provides extensive opportunities for integration of art appreciation and evaluation. Additionally, the profile portrait silhouette represents the most common type of silhouette practices during Colonial America and, therefore, can be linked with social studies. The finished products may also serve as a springboard for the integration of language arts, as students write and speak about themselves and each other highlighting the items they choose for there collage.
