Abstract | Students entering middle school are faced with many challenges and opportunities. School counselors can optimally assist them in their journey through academic development by providing skill building experiences. With study skills and the ability to self-advocate, students can build a solid foundation upon which confidence and academic performance can increase. This article outlines a psychoeducational group designed to assist 6th graders to identify their learning styles and strengths. The group also addressed their academic concerns by teaching them communication skills and how to build relationships with teachers and peers. (Contains 2 tables.) (Author). |
