AbstractEvery class needs at least one certified Fact Finder. Most classes have at least one student who is years ahead of the class in reading ability and intellectual curiosity. The teacher and the library media specialist can identify one or more of these students in each class who might be delighted to become a certified Fact Finder. Fact Finders could be taught to recognize an unanswered, or even an unasked, question in class discussion, or students or the teacher could specifically pose a question. Then, question in hand, the Fact Finder would quietly go to the computer in the classroom, or to the computer lab or library media center, and research the question and either print out the answer, write it on the Fact Finder Quest Sheet, or report to the class when appropriate. A list of sample questions should be prepared as one of the activities in the lesson for Fact Finders. As they work, students would learn criteria for judging sites. Answering a list of sample questions should be part of the qualifying test for the Fact Finders. After mastering the instruction and acing the qualifying exam, students would become official Fact Finders. (ERIC).
