Abstract | Passed in 1990, the Americans with Disabilities Act requires all children to be eligible for child care services, despite their special needs. Regardless of a child's unique circumstances, he or she has the same basic needs as all other children. Each requires a secure, stimulating environment that encourages ongoing development, whatever that development may be. There are many angles to consider when anticipating what a child will need, as well as what staff will need, to ensure a good inclusion experience. Pre-planning is helpful. Every setting and child is unique, so learning how to adapt is an ongoing process as a child's development unfolds--and as staff's responsiveness skills become refined. This article discusses some starting steps for an inclusion plan. (Contains 15 resources.) (ERIC). |
