Abstract | Young children have no or little understanding of death, although they do respond to the emotions of others around them. A child may perceive the sadness expressed by his or her parents without really understanding the cause. As such, it is important for directors to provide support, for both the child's teacher and the child's family during the grieving process. In order to provide this support, it is imperative that the relationship between grief and development be understood. The director needs to know how to assist the child's teacher in working with a grieving child. This article provides ideas on how to help children grieve. (ERIC). |
