Abstract	School nurses spend considerable time caring for the needs of children with asthma and thus can offer valuable insights into barriers to asthma care within the school setting. Investigators conducted focus groups with school nurses in Dayton Public Schools to evaluate barriers to asthma care for children in an urban school system. The school nurses identified school-related, parent-related, medical, and environmental barriers to optimal care provision during the school day. Suggestions offered to overcome these barriers so that children with asthma might participate more fully in school activities related to staffing, access to equipment, parent-child interventions, and external factors such as supportive legislation and increased funding.
