Abstract	This article discusses the National Standards for Sport Coaches Domain 5, Teaching and Communication, and the five standards that comprise the domain: (1) Standard 17--Design progressions for developing sport-specific skills that are based on appropriate teaching/learning progressions; (2) Standard 18--Provide a learning environment that is appropriate to the characteristics of the athletes and goals of the program; (3) Standard 19--Implement instruction that considers the dynamic relationship of personality and socio-cultural factors such as gender, race, and socio-economic status of the athletes; (4) Standard 20--Develop a broad repertoire of appropriate teaching strategies to facilitate athletic performance and development; and (5) Standard 21--Demonstrate appropriate and effective motivational skills and provide constructive and descriptive feedback to athletes.
