AbstractThroughout Europe, prison and correctional educators are attempting to address issues of common concern by engaging in cooperative projects designed to further the development of their pedagogical programs. The use of ICT (Information and Communication Technologies), especially access to the internet for prison educators and prisoner-students, is a matter for all working in the prison environment and will increasingly impact pedagogical practice in the future. In this paper, Behan and Gehring discuss two examples of projects created by the European Prison Education Association in response to the unique set of circumstances facing those working within a correctional environment. The Partnership in Prison Education: Learning in Networked Environments' main objective is to improve prison education in Europe by making ICT available to the learners and teachers in a correctional educational setting. It is believed that bridging the gap between life in prison and post-release by preparing prisoners for a networked world will reduce recidivism. The Training Teachers in Prison project has the objective of creating a teacher-training program for educators in correctional/prison environments throughout Europe. (ERIC).
