Abstract | This article deals with the problem between the teacher and parent of a child who will not participate in group activities. Here, the author features the teacher's story as well as the parent's story. Some children take a long time to warm up to group play. Often, these are imaginative youngsters who are quite content to amuse themselves. They may be completely at ease with one or two good friends, but overwhelmed by a large group's noise and activity levels. She assesses that the child is not ready to cope with the many sensations he experiences in a crowd. The sounds, movements, sights, and physical contact apparently overwhelm him. The child will need a gradual introduction to group play. Among other things, the author points out what the teacher and the parent can do. (Contains a list of 3 resources.) (ERIC). |
