Abstract | This study examined the role of children's story books in uniting generations. Thematic similarities and distinctions depicted in 101 children's story books on intergenerational linkages were examined. They utilized five categories: caring and sharing, fun with grandparents, depiction of multicultural families, relationship with non-relatives, and aging concepts using fantasy and imagination. Content analysis revealed that books in all five categories reflected a bonding process between and among generations, the role of grandparents in grandchildren's life, and grandchildren's contributions toward the learning and healing processes of older persons. Ideas on how family and consumer sciences (FCS) professionals can use story books are provided. (Contains 3 tables.) (ERIC). |
