Abstract | Interviewed student teachers who mentored children at risk as part of their preservice training. Results indicated that the mentors benefitted from the experience by gaining enhanced understanding of diverse, at-risk children and improved interpersonal and teaching skills. Relationships that developed between mentors and children varied greatly and were central to the mentoring experience. (SM) |
