Abstract | A study of 158 participants in mentoring relationships showed that those who used self-determined career goals and positive cognitions had greater job satisfaction and perceived career success. Those who used behavioral self-management strategies had greater perceived success. In some respects, self-management may offset ineffective or absent mentoring functions. (Contains 47 references.)
