Abstract | Contributes to scholarship on journalism and economics, using economic theory to develop a long-run standard for comparison of newspaper profits. Compares profits earned by 15 publicly-owned newspaper companies during an 11-year period to publishing company profits and to yields from government and corporate bonds. Shows that average newspaper company profits could be considered excessive. (SR) |
