Abstract | Interviews with 50 black adult students in British universities revealed their experience of racism in curriculum and staffing. They constructed informal support networks for themselves and were skeptical about the legitimacy of institutional knowledge and their expectations of employment. Although colleges emphasize widening access quantitatively, access has a different qualitative meaning to these students. (SK) |
