Abstract | A study investigated gender differences in academic achievement in 42 British universities' geography degrees awarded between 1973 and 1993. A persistent overrepresentation of males achieving highest and lowest degree levels was found, and in a substantial minority of departments (10), there was a significant gender difference in achievement. General and department-specific factors influencing these results are discussed. (MSE) |
