Abstract | Based on a Kenyan headmaster's personal observations, this article compares the roles of U.S. principals and Kenyan headmasters. U.S. principals should encourage greater public focus on a high school diploma's economic value, work to build a stronger sense of community within the school, facilitate development of consensus about common values, and concentrate more on training and orienting new teachers.
