Abstract | In this article, the authors report on the opportunity to share information with fellow members from institutional accrediting agencies at the "Initi8: Improving Ethical Reasoning at Scale" workshop facilitated by James Madison University, in June 2023. Helpful was the various viewpoints, perspectives, and musings of individuals engaged in the work of higher education accreditation on a day-to-day basis. Colleagues were asked three questions: (1) Now that assessment processes have matured on many campuses, do you see space for relaxing some expectations? And if so, in what areas? (2) What role does peer review play in the current challenges and the future opportunities for change in the accreditation process? and (3) If you could create--from scratch--a process to ensure educational quality through accreditation, what would it look like? The authors follow with contextual information about accreditation and assessment; a broad summary of responses to the questions; and personal reflections and learning. (ERIC). |
