Abstract | The Coalition on Adult Basic Education (COABE) provides leadership, professional development, advocacy, and communication for the field of adult education. In our leadership role, we often have the opportunity to recognize exemplary work taking place at the state and local levels. Such was the case with a grassroots training that was developed to raise awareness about the value of adult education and to reinstate funding that was eliminated in the state of Arizona. Arizona's training inspired the creation of a national program to help adult learners hone their stories to advocate for themselves and for the entire adult education field. This article outlines the major developments of the Students as Leaders Initiative from 2009 to the present. Figure 1 also summarizes the development of the Students as Leaders Initiative in the form of a timeline. (As Provided). |
