Abstract | College students in the 21st century face unprecedented levels of stress, which has led to a global and deleterious impact on their mental health. The mental health of college students is widely considered to be a public health crisis according to the World Health Organization (WHO), and universities are challenged to provide adequate resources for their students (Auerbach et al., 2018). The interconnection of mental health and academics creates an opening for intervention on an integrated level between academic coaches and mental health providers. The purpose of this article is to explore an academic coaching initiative at the University of Colorado at Boulder, in hopes that other institutions might customize this model to best proactively support student mental health in nonclinical settings.
