Abstract | Selecting and implementing a new mathematics curriculum program that is both high quality and is supported by stakeholders is a challenging endeavor. In this article, the authors share a year-long process in which a school district's (SD) elementary mathematics committee (EMC) engaged in exploring, testing, and selecting a curriculum program to recommend to the district for adoption. This process included lesson study to support teachers in exploring and testing curriculum programs. The authors discuss key strategies the EMC and facilitators used to establish trust and build community within the group, EMC teachers' learning throughout the process, and shifts in practice the EMC recommended for the SD. This roadmap can be effectively applied at the middle and high school levels as well. [Introduction and Reflection are written by Angela T. Barlow, David Custer, and Clayton Edwards.] (ERIC). |
