Abstract | People with disabilities are employed at a rate much lower than people without disabilities (Erickson et al., 2022). People with disabilities can be excellent employees who bring a wide range of skills and abilities to their work. Businesses may experience increased productivity and positive publicity as benefits to hiring people with disabilities (Lindsay et al., 2018). Still, people with disabilities are underemployed in the workforce. The authors of this study spoke to one young man who participated in the Project SEARCH employment training program for people with disabilities. The young man shared the story of how he transitioned from being an intern to a full-time employee (Yin, 2017). The authors listened to recordings of the interviews to search for themes throughout. This paper highlights the story of one man's journey to employment in the hopes that it will shed light on the importance of this transition for other people with disabilities. (As Provided). |
