Abstract | The widespread visibility of George Floyd's murder forced many to confront the realities of police brutality and racial inequities in the United States. Educational institutions, businesses, school divisions, and professional organizations (such as the American Educational Research Association [2020] and National Art Education Association [2020]) made statements supporting Black Lives Matter and their commitment to antiracist practices. As a personal commitment to antiracism, I decided to ground my curriculum in antiracist pedagogical practices. Here, I present my Elementary Art Education Methods curriculum for the 2020-2021 academic year. I describe the topics studied and the purpose of introducing these topics, provide students' feedback, and conclude with reflections on the course and considerations for the field. (As Provided). |
