Abstract | Mental skills training is becoming increasingly important in athletics as a means enhance performance. Although there is a foundation of research on mental skills training with elite athletes, more research is needed to better understand the development and use of mental skills training with non-elite athletes. This qualitative study examines the effects of a season-long mental skills training program on a midwestern Division II wrestling team. Findings indicate that the training had a two-pronged effect, positively influencing both individual athlete ideology as well as team cohesion. Implications for future use and potential adaptation are explored. (As Provided). |
