Abstract | School psychologists sometimes are called upon as a witness in a special education due process hearing. Without over-legalizing the role and responsibilities of the school psychologist, providing concise and organized attention to this topic not only reduces the discomforting symptoms of the fear/flight reaction but also contributes to more effective findings and conclusions of the hearing officer. This article provides a short, practical set of testimony tips that is: (1) specific to Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) school psychologists as witnesses in due process hearings; and (2) subject to further customization by colleagues and attorneys with experience in due process hearings in their jurisdictions. Each tip is a brief recommendation, although the explanation provides more specific meaning for this particular context. (ERIC). |
