Abstract | Preparing elementary students to think and communicate like an engineer is possible, but requires a sequence of lessons spanning multiple classroom experiences that are aligned to multiple performance expectations (PEs). This article identifies how multiple PEs can be clustered to meet the instructional goals set forth in the "Next Generation Science Standards," and it demonstrates how the 5E instructional model provided a framework to guide thinking throughout the planning process. This article describes the planning process and associated implementation of multiple lessons with a group of elementary teachers. A group of the teachers who participated in the professional development then took the lessons described into their own classrooms and reported back suggested modifications. (ERIC). |
