| Abstract | Student involvement for Black women at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) has shaped the lives of many prominent Black women such as current Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms, Senator Kamala Harris, and former minority leader of the Democratic Party Stacey Abrams in today's society. In this article, Jamila L. Lee-Johnson will share the narratives of two undergraduate leaders and their experiences with being an elected student leader while attending an HBCU. She will also critique respectability politics at HBCUs and how that plays a major role in student leadership. The two women were chosen because of their shared experiences as prominent student leaders on campus. Additionally, she will draw upon her lived experiences as a student leader and research to provide recommendations on how to best support Black women leaders on campus. (ERIC). |
