AbstractAlthough climate change is already a reality in many geographical regions, and the scientific evidence of the global environmental danger is stark, 'business as usual' often remains unchallenged in business and management research. Moreover, business and management education continues to teach and promote human-centered economic models that are profoundly insensitive to the complex interdependencies between human action and the irreversible environmental changes that constitute the currently, and rapidly unfolding, reality of climate change. Legal scholars and educators have much to contribute to equipping students and practitioners with the critical thinking skills and transdisciplinary insights necessary for them to be able to tackle the challenges of the present which cut across multiple dimensions of human life--material, economic, environmental, social, cultural, technical, political, medical, aesthetic, and moral. In this essay, Constance E. Bagley calls on business educators to focus learners on the purpose of the firm, their personal and professional responsibility to be good stewards of the resources they control, and their duty to act with integrity in a sustainable fashion in accordance with both the letter and spirit of the law.
