Abstract | The activity presented in this article is an engaging engineering challenge that has been conducted with third- through fifth-grade students in school classrooms and during after-school programs. This article describes the hands-on activity as appropriate for fifth graders that supports the "Next Generation Science Standards." This challenge incorporates life science standards by providing students the opportunity to consider the anatomy and behavior of the animal in the trap design. The entire activity as presented can be completed in approximately an hour but can also be expanded over several days and done in smaller increments of time for a richer experience. (ERIC). |
