Abstract	Solar energy holds great potential for addressing energy poverty around the world. With creative design and implementation, school children can access solar-powered solutions to facilitate their studies and help their families. The Solar Cow allows students to charge portable batteries while they study and take the batteries home to their parents at the end of the school day. This acts as a tangible incentive for low-income families to send their children to school instead of having them work to boost household incomes. Various factors prevent children from attending school in developing countries. These range from a lack of funding and facilities for education to socio-economic and cultural barriers. Even when children do have access to schools, they do not always attend because their parents prefer for them to help around the home, on the farm, or in the family business. This is especially true for girls, who are generally expected to take on a larger share of domestic tasks and are not prioritized for schooling. School attendance is particularly low in rural, off-grid areas of developing countries, where energy poverty often accompanies low incomes and fewer learning opportunities. The Solar Cow system aims to tackle both challenges of education access and energy poverty. (ERIC).
