Abstract | Linda Stein created a series of artwork entitled "Holocaust Heroes: Fierce Females" (H2F2) in response to her experiences during the attacks on the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. The body of work centers around 10 mixed media tapestries that depict different female heroes from the Holocaust. This article explores the idea of creative activity as a human right. The authors propose that exhibition as curriculum is an important construct and practice to explore the potential of art education as a critical social practice, that is, practices and actions that embrace "Research, philosophies, and histories [that] can help animate a human rights discourse for creative activity and cultural participation" (Kraehe & Rolling, 2016, n.p.). The authors discuss curatorial practices for organizing Stein's H2F2 art exhibit and museum field trip experience that includes curriculum development and creative activities and pedagogies for educators and secondary-grade students. Art experiences are valuable in considering how creative activities contribute to critical dialogue about power imbalances and highlight the potential of socially engaged art practices to reanimate cultural participation in ways that support respect and dignity for all people.
