Abstract | Throughout the decades, "Change Magazine" has managed to sustain a clear commitment to traditional academic values such as the importance of an undergraduate education for life and work, the importance of intellectual development, and the responsibility of both colleges and universities as well as their graduates to strengthen and improve society. At the same time, "Change" has maintained ongoing, useful, and creative attention to moving forward in teaching and learning, in serving the ever-growing and diverse population of students, and in strengthening the quality and value of a higher education. "Change@50" can be an impetus for self-reflection and self-examination not only for the magazine; it can be a model to reflect on many other areas of higher education. "Fifty years" triggered author Judith Eaton's thinking about accreditation, the space in which she has worked for many years. While not an anniversary of accreditation's founding, Eaton writes that "fifty years" is a valuable lens to reflect on where it has been and where it might be going. This shares her reflections and observations on the transformation of higher education over the last fifty years. (ERIC). |
