Abstract | One plausible method for ensuring students are truly understanding science fundamentals beyond being actively and intellectually engaged is to consider how informal learning environments can provide meaningful relevancy by connecting to real-world instances. Transforming traditional science centers into informal learning centers will ensure that the hands-on explorations come together to formulate conceptual understanding when combined with the facilitated instruction. In this article the authors share how a third-grade teacher refurbished the traditional science center into an informal learning center. Using a STEM approach, she made learning relevant by using problem-based, real-world tasks that align with disciplinary core ideas. (ERIC). |
