Abstract | The purpose of this basic qualitative study was to explore the role of enjoyment during group musical activities in the preschool classroom. Data collection included observations using a researcher-created tool and fieldnotes to determine how preschool students demonstrated enjoyment during group activities. Interviews with three preschool teachers provided insight into the perspectives and perceptions of how enjoyment, learning, and music interact in the classroom. Results of data analysis produced three themes: signs of enjoyment (affective, continuation responses, on-task behavior, positive body movement), factors affecting enjoyment (affective, cognitive, physiological, activity structure), and links between enjoyment and other aspects of learning and classroom life (music, learning, and self-efficacy). Implications for educators and future research are discussed. (As Provided). |
