AbstractA conversation between the Director of the University of Manchester's Science & Engineering Education Research and Innovation Hub and the Education Director of England's Halle Orchestra explores the relationship unfolding between science and music. The interview focuses on synergies between music and science and how the two subjects can support each other at a time when creativity in learning is essential to develop young minds, new entrepreneurs, and successful scientists. Topics include the interdisciplinary elementary school curriculum and the development of scientific skills through music; a Saturday program for underachieving elementary school students that looks at improving students' achievement in numeracy, literacy, and science using music; a robot orchestra; and a focus on creativity.
