Abstract | To enhance a child's ability to cope after the loss of a loved one, parents and caregivers may use children's books as one of a variety of available strategies. When using this familiar form of bibliotherapy with preschoolers, it is important to choose books that are developmentally appropriate for the child and the situation at hand. In this study, content analysis was performed on ten books that were specifically written for parents/caregivers to read with young children. Each book was evaluated according to its consistency with Parkes' stages of grief for children (i.e., numbness, yearning and searching, disorganisation, and re-organisation). Books were also analysed for developmental appropriateness of language and concepts presented. (As Provided). |
