Abstract | Using a narrative inquiry approach, the author examines how children, teachers, and parents benefit from the practice of parent engagement. She shares her first two years as a school leader, describing how she worked from a philosophy and pedagogy of parent engagement. School Leaders will learn how parent engagement has enhanced the school culture and climate of the author's school. They will also learn how an Administration team can work to provide professional development for staff and work towards shifting staff assumptions and beliefs about a community. Central themes in this paper are walking alongside parents, acknowledging parent funds of knowledge, and educational leadership working with a curriculum of parents. She shares suggestions on how to enhance parent engagement and proposes new possibilities for the future. (As Provided). |
