AbstractIn December 2015, the media was full of Tim Peake and his adventures as he set off for the International Space Station as the first British ESA astronaut. The author set up a class blog as well as a Twitter account and created cross-curricular units of work around the "real" experience. Children really raised their game when they were informed that "the best" pieces of work would be shared on the blog or even tweeted to Tim Peake himself. The use of social media increased the confidence of the children in her class, as well as increasing the effort that they put into their homework, with the carrot of "featuring on the blog" dangling in front of them.
