Abstract | In this review, Rudolf Tippelt focuses on two central comparative educational publications that compare the English and German education systems under specific historical perspectives: (1) Lenhart V, "Die erste Schrift zur vergleichenden Erziehungswissenschaft"/"The First Treatise in Comparative Education." Fredericus Augustus Hechtius: "De re scholastica Anglica cum Germanica Comparata" (1795-1798), Peter Lang Verlag: Frankfurt, 2015; 172 pp.: ISBN 978-3-631-66632-6, 39,95 €; and (2) Phillips D, "Investigating Education in Germany. Historical studies from a British perspective," Routledge: New York, 2015; 248 pp.: ISBN: 978-1-1388-5421-5, £88.00. Tippelt draws attention to the value of these historical perspectives as he highlights their importance for the analysis of pedagogical transition processes and the comparative research. He also offers the opinion that all in all, he finds both books to be very suitable for showing the outcome and explanatory potential of comparative educational studies. (ERIC). |
