AbstractHaving received the 2017 "Lasting Impact Award" for "Women's Experiences and Ways of Knowing: Implications for Teaching and Learning in the Organizational Behavior Classroom," author Joan V. Gallos describes the experience as "delightfully sweet and timely." The article was written early in her academic career at Radcliffe, and Gallos finds that having her work honored 25 years later for having changed thinking and practice for educators, professionals, men and women, critical thinkers, college administrators, program developers, and scholars" feels rather glorious. She says that it is also humbling to learn of the article's impact in areas like accounting, entrepreneurship, IT, travel and leisure, insurance studies, general education, corporate training, and on international scholarship in Korea, Germany, Finland, China, and more. She remarks that it is an academic's dream come true to know that so many have read and used the article, and continue to learn from it. Gallos also adds that this award offers a well-timed opportunity to reflect on women's experiences, new ways of knowing, and the power and importance of women's education and voice in an ever increasingly volatile and fast paced world. Gallos closes by saying that the challenge she emphasized in 1993 are still present: To construct learning environments that build on the best knowledge about both women and men to create inclusive and equitable environments that maximize human potential. If the hope is to create a just, safe, and peaceful world, people must to explore those issues and to face head on the opportunities and challenges newer ways of knowing will offer. Everyone's voices and talents matter.
